Council Candidate Kallos Rallies for Transportation Justice

New York, New York — Council candidate Ben Kallos joined the Transit Justice Rally for better public transportation outside of MTA headquarters. The rally, run by advocacy group Transit Forward, demanded service restorations for the public transportation that New Yorkers rely on. Kallos pioneered the “Bring Back our Booths” program, a citywide movement to restore booths and station agents to stations that lost them to budget cuts this winter, leading to widespread safety and accessibility concerns. Kallos founded the "Bring Back our Booths" petitioning and advocacy program through his campaign when residents noted increased in vandalism, waiting time and crime that occurred after the removal of booths on the 86th Street and 77th Street stations’ northbound platforms. “The public transportation system is part of the daily lives of nearly all New Yorkers. We all deserve a safe and comfortable commute,” said Kallos. “The current plan to build the Second Avenue subway line with no booths is unsustainable. Instead, we must demand that measures are taken to ensure safety and accessibility for all." Kallos has received the endorsement of the Transit Workers Union (TWU) Local 100 and Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1179 in recognition of his strong transportation platform and advocacy. Kallos has been the Executive Director of a leading good government group, entrepreneur, attorney, and the former Chief of Staff for Assembly Member Jonathan Bing.
